Tropics heating up, two disturbances likely to develop
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS 12) —
The tropics are heating up as we are watching two disturbances. The one of more interest to us here in South Florida is a large area of disturbed weather located several hundred miles to the southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Conditions are likely to become more conducive for development into a tropical depression or storm early next week over the central Atlantic. The system is moving to the west at 10 – 15 mph and has an 80% chance of development. On this track, the disturbance will be near the Lesser Antilles next Tuesday into Wednesday. In addition, a strong tropical wave located near the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) has a 40% chance of developing over the next 5 days. The system is moving west-northwest at 15 – 20 mph across the western Caribbean toward the Yucatan Peninsula.
