What's Lincoln Thinkin' - Kiffin makes splash with Johnson signing
Lane Kiffin was introduced just Tuesday and he's all ready making a splash as FAU's new head coach.
He's bringing in former star player with a checkered past - and giving us a prelude to what the new era is going to be like in Boca Raton.
Lane Kiffin told us at his introductory press conference that he has matured from his three short, roller coaster coaching stints.
He says he's a different person now.
And no doubt, De'Andre Johnson wants us to believe the same thing as well.
Johnson was dismissed from Florida State in 2015 as a freshman - after video surfaced of Johnson punching a girl at a Tallahassee bar.
FAU believes, just like Kiffin, Johnson has matured..
But the signing gives an advanced look at the type of program Kiffin is going to run.
Kiffin may be a great recruiter, and he's smack dab in the middle of some of the best high school talent in the country..
But if Kiffin wants to win as quick as possible, it seems he's going a different route - mining junior college programs, to find players like Johnson - that either are late bloomers, or have had issues in other places. And that could help the Owls immediately.
That might not mean great news for local high schoolers that want to play for Kiffin - or for FAU fans that want to see Kiffin stay for as long as possible.
