What's Lincoln Thinkin: "John the Baptist" is coming

West Palm Beach native John Collins

West Palm Beach native John Collins says he's been overlooked since middle school..

That's why he wasn't a top rated player on the AAU scene, or a top ranked recruit out of Cardinal Newman High School.

He's been making those doubters pay - and continues to - just a few weeks into his pro career.

John Collins was one of 20 players invited to the green room at the NBA Draft.

He was the 19th player drafted and there were a number of teams looking for a player with Collins's skill set that passed over him.

That all ready, looks like a bad decision.

At the start of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, no one is turning more heads than Collins. He's averaging a double double, and Wednesday night scored 25 points and 9 rebounds, punctuated by an alley-oop finish, and an incredible dunk.

Some have called it, biblical, and have anointed Collins with his first NBA nickname - "John the Baptist".

Collins made a rapid ascension from an overlooked high school player, to the runner-up for ACC Player of the Year in two seasons.

Now in a position with the Atlanta Hawks to be a focal point of a rebuilding team, Collins is all ready establishing himself as a bright young NBA star, and his career is only four exhibition games old.

"John the Baptist" has an announcement to make to the rest of the NBA...

He's coming.
