What's Lincoln Thinkin' - Debunking FAU's Heisman myth
A Heisman Trophy candidate at Florida Atlantic?
Sounds ridiculous right?
Well the marketing team at FAU is starting the push, for a player whose numbers are proving he belongs the conversation.
FAU running back Devin Singletary's nickname is "Motor".
And right now, he has the Owls offense on overdrive.
Saturday against Western Kentucky, the American Heritage grad ran for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Singletary now has 18 touchdowns this season, that's four more than the closest competitor in the entire country.
So, that impressive statistic, plus he's the offensive focal point of a team that's undefeated in conference play, and he plays for a school that is getting a lot more national recognition this year - are all reasons why a Heisman Trophy push is not crazy.
Monday Lane Kiffin himself compared Singletary to two Heisman trophy-winning running backs he's coached - Reggie Bush and Derrick Henry.
Be that as it may, stats aren't enough to win a Heisman. The last non-power 5 player to win the Heisman was BYU's Ty Detmer in 1990. And if you take the top 25 most prolific scoring seasons by running backs, only twice was it enough to garner a Heisman.
In reality, there is nothing Motor Singletary can do to win the Heisman. But, the more he keeps shifting into the end zone, the more notoriety he gives Florida Atlantic University.
And that's what the Lane Kiffin era is all about, right?
