The Wellington boys basketball team lost one of the best players in school history to graduation last year.

Somehow, they've been even better.

While Trent Frazier is busy being one of the favorites for Big 10 Freshman of the Year at the University of Illinois, his alma mater has been unbeatable. And now they're on the way to try to finish what they couldn't last season.

Wellington improved to 30-0 and booked their ticket to the State Semifinals Friday with a 55-41 victory over Deerfield Beach in a Class 9A regional final. Senior forward Jonathan Philistin took over the game in the second half and scored a game-high 15 points.

Wellington (30-0) remained undefeated and will play Miramar in Lakeland next Friday. The Wolverines have reached the state semifinals in three of the past four years.

The Wolverines outscored the Bucks (22-9) 14-6 in the third quarter to take a commanding 38-26 advantage. Philistin scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half. Wolverines senior guard Bryan Williams and Nico Toledo each scored 11 points. Cornelius Butler added nine points and Linton Brown had eight.
