Selection Sunday unveils intriguing high school football regional playoff match-ups


All of the confusion in trying to figuring out possible playoffs scenarios for high school football teams in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast has been put to rest, as the Florida High School Athletic Association released its playoff brackets on Sunday, based on their new points system.

Representing Palm Beach County schools in Class 8A, the FHSAA's largest class classification, the 2nd seed Palm Beach Central Broncos will host the 7th seed Seminole Ridge in round one of the playoffs. The Atlantic Eagles were seeded 4th, and will host the 5th seed Plantation.

The Park Vista Cobras, who made the postseason as a wild card, along with the Hawks, will have to play the 1st overall seed Miramar.

On the Treasure Coast, Vero Beach is the 2nd seed in Region 2-8A, and will host the 7th seed Orlando-Olympia in the first round of the playoffs.

(5) Forest Hill (first playoff berth since 1996) vs. (4) Pembroke Pines-West Broward

(4) Westwood vs. (5) Orlando-Bishop Moore

(4) Glades Central vs. (1) University

Class 3A

(3) King's Academy vs. (2) Oxbridge Academy

(3) Homestead-Everglades Prep vs. (2) Benjamin

(4) American Heritage vs. (1) Hollywood-Chaminade Madonna.

Class 2A

(1) Moore Haven vs. (4) Glades Day

Class 1A

(4) Williston vs. (1) Pahokee

The first round games of the regional playoffs for all classes will take place this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
