A 220 pound gator was being celebrated in the hallways of Palm Beach Gardens High School on Monday, but that was no reason to be concerned. The Gators wrestling team returned from the State Championships in Kissimmee over the weekend with a lifetime worth of memories.

While two of the six Gators pulled off top five finished , junior Bryan Canedo made it all the way to the top of the podium, winning the 3A State Title in the 220 weight class. Canedo, who's only been wrestling for a year, succeeded in his game plan to "out-smart" his opponent in order to get the win.

"I knew that the stronger they are, the weaker they'd get as they're muscles (got) tired," says Canedo. "Do (I went) as hard as I (could) until he started breaking."

"It's always special," says Gators head coach William George. "Because you've helped a young man reach his pinnacle."

Canedo is the first wrestler from Gardens to win States in the 220 pound category.
