Forest Hill’s Torrin Andrews scored 23 points to lead the Falcons to an 85-65 8A regional quarterfinal win against the visiting Fort Lauderdale L’s on Thursday night in West Palm Beach.

Forest Hill’s D’Ante Evans and Donovan Draper had 15 and 11 points, respectively, and the Falcons (25-3) used a big third-quarter comeback to notch the victory.

Trailing 36-28 at halftime, the Falcons stormed back with a 29-point third quarter, while limiting the visitors to 12 points. The Falcons used a swarming defense which resulted in a number of steals and easy layups to overwhelm the L’s.

“At halftime, I told our guys not to panic,” said Falcons coach Tony Watson. “Our players got after it, we moved our feet on defense, we grabbed some key rebounds, and didn’t give them any second-chance shots.”

“In the halftime locker room, we didn’t panic and kept level-headed,” said Andrews.

While the Falcons scored the game’s first points on a 3-pointer by Andrews, the Falcons didn’t lead again until midway through the third quarter when Daniels stole the ball and drove the length of the court, finally dishing to teammate Brayden Washington for the go-ahead basket at the 3:37 mark.

The Falcons continued applying full-court pressure and outscored the visitors 28-15 in the fourth quarter, enjoying a double-digit lead for the majority of the fourth quarter. Eleven players scored points in the game for the Falcons.

Fort Lauderdale was led by Alex Doane with 18 points, which included a trio of three pointers.
