Fins ride out Irma from afar, prepare for Chargers in LA

The Dolphins practice in Oxnard,  California.

The Miami Dolphins couldn't have picked a more serene location to ride out Irma.

While their homes in South Florida were getting rocked by a hurricane, they were in Southern California.

And that's where they remain, spending their seventh night Thursday in the Los Angeles area, preparing for their game Sunday against the Chargers. The Fins are working out at the Cowboys offseason facility in Oxnard.

Since they left South Florida, they had their opener moved to November and lost their bye week, plus, they've had to rely on neighbors and friends to check in on their homes and belongings. But all-in-all, they know they're lucky, and hope to bring some happiness to Dolphans with a win.

A surprising name popped up on the injury report though - running back Jay Ajayi practiced in full Thursday, but Adam Gase said he has been dealing with knee soreness "for a while". Ajayi had knee injuries in college, but they haven't been a problem his first two years in the NFL.

The Dolphins announced their captains for the season Thursday - they include defensive end Cam Wake, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, receiver Kenny Stills, center Mike Pouncey and special teamer Michael Thomas. You can watch Fins and Chargers, on CBS12 Sunday at 4pm.
