Sale mows down Marlins in first start of spring

Chris Sale warms up at Roger Dean Stadium (WPEC)

One of the best pitchers in baseball made his first start of the spring Friday in Jupiter.

And the Marlins were Red Sox ace Chris Sale's first victims of 2018.

Sale led the American League in strikeouts last season. But he is starting a new pitching regiment this year and making his first spring start a little later in the schedule.

Sale was dealing - he threw four innings, two hits allowed, one run and five strikeouts.

He left with the lead, but a JB Shuck home run gave the win to the Marlins 5-4. After his outing, one of the best pitchers in baseball said he's working to get even better - that's why he's changing some of his day-to-day habits.

Sale drove over from the Red Sox base in Fort Myers Thursday night, to spend the evening with his in-laws who live in Boynton Beach.
