Florida Panthers' Aleksander Barkov named an NHL All-Star for the first time


Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov is finally getting his chance to shine in this years All-Star game in Tampa Bay.

“I was getting a haircut yesterday, and they called me, and said congratulations. I couldn’t believe it,” Barkov said.

For the first time since his NHL career started in 2013 he's been granted the All-Star stage to showcase his abilities. Known as one of hockey's biggest workhorses, Barkov has been putting in 22:30 minutes playing time every game and is having on of the best seasons of his career, with 40 points in 41 games.

“It feels great, I’m happy to be there, and happy to be invited to such a great happening. I feel really really proud,” he says.

His 14 goals are third on the Panthers, trailing right behind Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau. Barkov will hit the ice along with the other chosen All-Stars on January 28th in a 3-on-3 tournament.
