Gators head coach Dan Mullen visits Wellington's 4-star recruit Richards via helicopter
Wellington (CBS12) —
Mark Anthony Richards was all ready considered a 'big man on campus' at Wellington High School, following in his brother Ahmmon's footsteps as the big star of the Wolverines football team. But the title of 'big man on campus' gets taken to a whole new level when a helicopter lands on your school's football field, and one of the biggest college football coaches in the country is there to offer you a scholarship.
"I was looking at the helicopter, and was figuring it was Nick Saban or somebody. But then I saw who it was and I was like wow!"
Richards watched as a helicopter landed on the Wellington High School football field. It was Florida Gators Head Coach Dan Mullen paying him a visit in style, all in front of his peers and fellow Wolverines.
"We are the University of Florida," said Mullen. "So the big important thing for us is to get the best players in the state to some play for us."
"He said we'd be happy to have you with the program," says Richards of his visit with Mullen. "We'll see, we'll have to make a decision."
The four-star recruit has narrowed his college choices down to five teams, Florida Auburn, Miami,Georgia and Penn State, but no matter who he chooses, his mother Daphanie couldn't be more proud.
"I'm just so blessed to be part of this, and he's just such an amazing kid, and I'm so proud of his accomplishments."
Richards says he'll be making his choice within the next week. National signing day is next Wednesday.
