Atlantic High defensive back dies of injuries from dirtbike accident
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
Marc'Allen Derac had a bright football future ahead of him. The blossoming rising senior at Atlantic High School had major dreams that looked like they were becoming a reality - until a dirtbike accident earlier this month left him with injuries, that eventually took his life.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's report, the 17-year-old Derac was involved in a dirtbike accident on April 22nd. He died early Tuesday morning. Derac was driving a dirtbike without headlights, when he struck an SUV. He was not wearing a helmet and did not have a license. Derac had a huge season last year with 9 interceptions for the state finalists. He reportedly had offers from syracuse and iowa state, among others.
Plenty of heartbreaking messages on twitte, including one from his Eagle teammate Corey Cola (@cola_corey): "I could go on and on about my lil bro! My heart is aching! We have had amazing times together and i swore to you that i would always watch you while i'm in school. I'm so sorry this happened to you! Just know i'll work extra hard to make you proud man! I promise!"
Atlantic High School is still working on plans on how to honor Derac.
