Athlete of the Week: St. Andrew's Alisa Finger
BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) —
Alisa Finger came all the way from Frankfurt, Germany to play tennis at Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton. The CBS12 Athlete of the Week Alisa Finger will now be heading back Europe to attend college as a 2-time Florida State Champion.
"We all ran to each other and hugged each other," says Finger. "It was such a great feeling."
It was a State Championship feeling as Finger made it her goal to experience again after winning as the 4th best player on the St. Andrew's tennis team last season. This time she led the way as the sole senior, and pure-bonafide # 1.
"She came back with a whole new renewed excitement for tennis," says St. Andrew's Head Coach Reid Rafter. "And I can't say enough about how important that was."
"Last year was just so amazing going to States," adds Finger. "And I wanted to experience it a second time, especially with all my new teammates."
It was an impressive way to leave her legacy at St. Andrew's, a true sign of how far she's come.
"She really had her struggles on the court as far as keeping her composure and keeping her focus," says Rafter. "And these year it was something you never could have imagined, a big leader for the young kids."
"St. Andrews is my home," says Finger. "I've lived here for 3 years, now my name is in the gym, it's on the banner, and every time I come back I'm going to look up there and know people look up there and see my name. It's pretty amazing."
And while she's continuing her education at a College in the Netherlands. she looks forward to competing in European Tennis Tournaments with a whole new game, honed in Boca Raton.
"I used to compete against them before, and now I got better, so they won't know what to expect!"
