NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A man arrested this week is accused of attacking a Tennessee nurse with a metal object, booking records show.
Police were called to TriStar Centennial Medical Center Monday morning to transport the suspect, identified as Issah Abdallah, to a cold weather shelter. Officers arrived and found the 49-year-old man laying in a bed in a hallway. He wasn't responding to police, accord to the arrest warrant.
Police said they told hospital staff to call officers back when the man wakes up and "still wishes to be transported."
According to the arrest warrant, officers were leaving the hospital when a nurse "came running out" to report another nurse had been assaulted.
Police went back inside and found the suspect on the floor with a nurse standing next to him. Officers observed "blood pouring out of the nurse's face." The nurse told police he was struck in the face by the suspect, who used a metal object. Police later identified the object as a base plate for a thermometer.
The nurse required three stitches.
Abdallah was taken into custody and charged with trespassing and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
