The autopsy of the body believed to be Gabby Petito is scheduled for Tuesday and could answer a lot of questions.

Following the autopsy, investigators will be able to 100% confirm the body belongs to Petito.

It will also give them a much better idea of the cause of death.

A makeshift cross was found in the Spread Creek Dispersed camping area where officials said they found the body that resembles Petito.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the cross marks the exact spot, however, our 2News crew in the area said there are signs of recent digging and paint marks.

The area has been closed for days as investigators conducted a ground search for Petito. The body was found on Sunday.

Tuesday's autopsy will completely confirm the identity of the body even though the FBI, as well as Petito's family, have indicated it is her.

As investigators get a better idea of how she died, the autopsy will also give them a better idea of what next steps will need to be taken in the investigation.

It is still unknown when the public will be updated with the results of the autopsy or if the FBI will be holding another press conference to inform the public.

2News has a crew on the scene in Wyoming and will be providing updates about the case as we learn more.
