WWE suspends wrestler after domestic battery arrest in Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) —
A WWE wrestler has been suspended following his arrest Saturday night in Florida for domestic battery and false imprisonment.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, WWE star Richard Swann got in an altercation with his while while driving, put her in a headlock, and forced her back into their vehicle.
According to the arrest report, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on East University Ave. Swann and his pro wrestler wife Vannarah Riggs were arguing in their car about her performance when she got scared, and jumped out of the moving car near Southeast Hawthorne Road.
Witnesses saw Swann grab Riggs by her arm, put her in a headlock, and shove her back into the car. Witnesses also say they saw Riggs screaming for help and beat on the car window as they drove away.
Riggs told police she is afraid of Swann because he has a temper, and she was worried their argument would escalate into a physical fight.
Swann denies grabbing Riggs, and pushing her into his car. Swann told police she got into the car on her own. He also claims he needed her in the car because she had the phone with GPS on it, police say.
Riggs and Swann have been in a relationship for five years, and have been married for 9 months.
Swann is charged with one count of domestic battery, and one count of false imprisonment.
