The woman who drowned during a fight with another woman in a pond in Riviera Beach left jail hours before her death.

Police arrested 21-year-old Liane Gibson on Thursday, Nov. 9 for grand theft auto. According to the police report, officers pulled over a speeding car that turned out to be reported stolen by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Officers detained the 17-year-old driver on charges of grand theft and fleeing to elude. Police found Gibson and two other women in the car, along with several empty wallets, IDs, and Social Security cards that didn't belong to the women.

Gibson told police she bought the car for $60 from a man at the StonyBrook Apartment complex in Riviera Beach and used the car for a string of car burglaries in West Palm Beach, according to the report.

Police took Gibson and booked her into the Palm Beach County jail that day. She bonded out Friday afternoon. Hours later, Riviera Beach Police said two groups of women got into a fight at the Indian Trace Apartments. The fight spilled over to the back of the complex where Gibson and another woman scuffled in a pond. The other woman, who has not been identified by police, made it out of the water. Police recovered Gibson's body on Saturday morning. Police said no charges have been filed in Gibson's death as the investigation is ongoing.
