Video: Person of interest sought in connection to body found burning in a field in Florida

RUSKIN, Fla. (CBS12) — Detectives released a video of a person of interest they believe has information regarding a body found burning in a field in Florida.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday, a concerned caller told dispatch they saw a mannequin burning in an open field behind a residential area on Will Scarlett Avenue in Ruskin. Unfortunately, when fire rescue responded to the scene to extinguish the flames, they discovered that the mannequin was actually a dead body.

“This is a jarring scene,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “At this time, our deputies are doing everything they can to determine what happened to this person. We do believe this is an isolated incident, and we will continue to work tirelessly until we determine how this horrific crime occurred.”

In an update on Tuesday, the sheriff's office released video of an unknown man that detectives would like to speak with regarding the murder.

"Our detectives are working tirelessly to investigate every lead and piece of evidence, including this footage. I am immensely proud of their unwavering dedication to solving this heinous crime, " said Sheriff Chronister. "However, we cannot do this alone. We are committed to bringing justice for the victim and their family, but we need the public's assistance."

The sheriff's office said due to the horrific nature of the crime and the nature in which the body was found, investigators are still working to identify the victim.
