Video: Deputy fired for hitting inmate in wheelchair

Deputy fired for hitting inmate in wheelchair( Pinellas County Sheriff's Office)

A detention deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was fired Thursday for repeatedly hitting an inmate in a wheelchair, according to authorities.

The sheriff's office terminated 46-year-old Deputy Aaron Hull, a 12 year veteran on the force, after video surfaced of his interaction with the inmate last September.

According to investigators, Hull was trying to talk to a group of inmates, when one of them, 24-year-old Taylor Schuessler, verbally challenged the deputy.

Schuessler ignored the deputy's commands to reign in his behavior, so Hull kicked the inmate's wheelchair, investigators said. Video showed Hull poking Schuessler in the head multiple times with an index finger, grabbing the inmate's neck, as well as striking Schuessler in the face three times.

At one point during the exchange, Schuessler spit in Hull's face. Hull alleged Schuessler also hit him while he was transporting him out of the room, but his hits did not affect him, investigators said.

Neither one was injured, authorities add.

Hull was previously disciplined in 2015 for a similar incident, investigators say. Hull flipped over a table, damaging it, while trying to talk to an inmate.
