Venus Williams files emergency court order in wrongful death case
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) —
Lawyers for Venus Williams filed an emergency court order in connection with the wrongful death lawsuit against the tennis star.
Williams, of Palm Beach Gardens, is being sued by the family of 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died 13 days after a collision with Williams on Northlake Boulevard on June 9.
According to the court filing for a protective order, Williams wants to block the attorneys for Barson from inspecting and downloading vehicle data from the tennis champion's Toyota Sequoia, "unless and until the Court establishes a procedure for the collection of all vehicle data."
The attorneys for Williams want to make sure the data is collected properly.
A judge granted the emergency motion for protective order pending a hearing on Friday morning.
