Florida getting its first library vending machine.
It’s coming to south Indian River County at the Intergenerational Center.
“They can operate like a Redbox, you can also order a book from the online website,” says Tracey Wehking, the Director of Indian River County Library Services.
The hope is that the library vending machine will be a more convenient option for the south county during the winter months when traffic is heavier.
It will hold 340 popular titles at a time for $166,000; a fraction of the cost to the county.
“Compared to 8 million plus the cost of staff that’s a bargain,” says Wehking.
“This is a much more cost-efficient way to get service down to the south county residents,” says Wehking.
The machine is expected to be up by early 2020 but it won’t be open 24 hours. Instead, it will operate during the Intergenerational Center’s business hours.
