UAB running back Greg Bryant is fighting for his life after getting shot early this morning while driving down I 95.
Bryant's family says they are not giving up hope that Greg Bryant will pull through after being shot in the head.
"We are not holding up. He has a lot of family friends and people all over the world," said Grandmother Annette Kelley.
This is not how Kelley planned to spend her mothers day with her beloved Grandson, UAB Running back Greg Bryant. West Palm Beach Police say around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Bryant and his passenger Maurice Glover were found shot in a car in a southbound lane of I-95.
"We are trying to find answers. Someone is going to have to give us answers because he was just getting ready to go back to college tomorrow. He just came home for the weekend to be with his grandmother and mother, and a coward killed my baby."
Investigators are seeking witnesses to the shooting. His family says Bryant was heading back home from Sugar Daddy's when he was shot in the head.
"I heard a car followed him and rolled up on the side of him and started shooting," said Step-Grandfather, Sam Kelley.
Bryant was a star football player at American Heritage. He went on to play at Notre Dame, but transferred to UAB, to to be apart of their first recruiting class since restarting the football program.
"Just hang in there with us. Just pray, it isn't over until the big man says so who knows," said Annette.
Bryant is currently in a medically induced coma, according to the family, as doctors at St. Mary's Medical center try to get some of the swelling to go down.
The shooting remains under investigation.
