BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A teen came home and made a grim discovery Monday afternoon.
Now, sheriff’s detectives have converged on a townhouse, looking for clues.
Palm Beach County deputies say it was a murder-suicide, but no word so far on what sparked the dispute.
Investigators identified the suspect as 45-year-old Gregory Schatz and the victim as 53-year-old Laura Randall of Boca Raton.
“It’s shocking at first for something like this to be this close to home,” neighbor Lukas Fecci said.
The sheriff's office says it was a murder-suicide that claimed the lives of a man and a woman.
“Sometimes, they would be partying very hard and sometimes they’d be fighting, like a dispute here and there, but like nothing really that there was any cops at the house,” Fecci said.
Detectives say it happened at the Hammock of Sandalfoot, a townhome community west of Boca Raton.
The sheriff’s office says a teenage age boy came home and found the bodies shortly before 4 p.m.
“This is really bad. It’s unbelievable," neighbor Helena Mendes said. "I live here for the past 28 years and never have something like that. It’s very sad, very sad. Sad, because it’s a mother, right? Somebody’s dad."
Detectives say it appears the man shot the woman, then turned the gun on himself.
The incident has left neighbors puzzled.
“This is a very nice area, I mean we never had any problems, I was really surprised,” said Hellen, a neighbor who would not give her last name.
“I been here a long time, my kids grow up there," neighbor Raphael Charles said. "Both my kids in college. nothing happens here like that."
The sheriff's office says it had to wait for a search warrant before deputies could go inside.
“I’m in shock because this is a very quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Yudelky Abdala said.
According to another neighbor, the victims moved in here two to three months ago.
