PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla./CBS12 NEWS — A turf war is developing between supporters of President Trump and supporters of Democratic challenger Joe Biden over a busy street corner in Palm Beach Gardens.
Every Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6p .m., Trump supporters show up at the northwest corner of PGA Boulevard and Military Trail, at what they call "Trump Corner" to wave signs and flags in support of re-electing President Trump.
This is a very busy intersection with high-visibility in Palm Beach Gardens, where thousands of cars and trucks go by every day.
The Trumpers have been using this corner since 2016.
But a few weeks ago, Biden supporters decided to start holding rallies there too.
The Biden rallies are every Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This week, some of the Trump supporters showed up on Wednesday and tried to take over the corner while the Biden people were there holding a rally.
Words were exchanged. The leader of the Biden group claims it would've turned into a fight if police had not arrived. The Trump organizer says simply we were here first.
“This isn’t just any intersection. I mean this is Trump corner. It’s got a name. It’s nationally known. And for another group to come out here, it’s just a lack of respect. I’ll say it over and over again. I would never do that to anybody," said Willy Guardiola, organizer of the Trump rally each Friday.
Eric Jablin, the organizer of the Joe Biden supporters, declined to go on camera because he said he does not want to antagonize the Trump supporters.
When CBS12 News asked him why they didn’t pick a different corner he said because this is the best one.
He said there's an I-95 exit right there and a lot of people drive by that spot as they're going west, heading home to residential neighborhoods on PGA Blvd.
We asked Jablin why not just hold your rallies on Wednesday afternoon somewhere else?
He said he wouldn't give the Trump backers the satisfaction of moving to another intersection.
Jablin---who's the former mayor of Palm Beach Gardens---says the Biden folks will be out there from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Wednesday because these are public streets and the Trump crowd has no right to say the Biden supporters can't be there as well.
