Tri-Rail train derailed in Deerfield Beach
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
Th locomotive of a Tri-Rail train going southbound derailed under the SW 10th Street overpass Monday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's Office said just before 4 p.m.
The 629 train was headed south from the Deerfield Beach station to the one in Pompano beach when it derailed, accoeing to Tri-Rail.
About 200 passengers were on board at the time, but no injuries have been reported. A Tri-Rail spokesperson called the incident a "pretty minor derailment" and advised that the air conditioning aboard the train is still functioning while passengers await buses to take them to the Pompano Beach station. From there they will be able to continue their journey by taking another train.
Tri-Rail expects trains in the area to be delayed by 30 minutes for the rest of the evening because of the incident.
A spokesperson with BSO stated a hazmat crew is on scene to deal with the fuel spill the derailment caused.
No word yet on what caused the train to derail.
