Three-year-old 'already a miracle' as she remains in medically induced coma
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) —
Three-year-old Preslie was shot in the head on Sunday morning during a road rage incident in Port St. Lucie.
"If the bullet would have been this much further down she wouldn’t be with us here today," family friend Kristin Hall said. "She's already a miracle."
Preslie was rushed to the hospital Sunday morning and had a successful surgery where doctors removed part of her brain and skull. Hall said Preslie will have to have a skull implant in a few months and since she had part of her brain removed she may have other issues
"Maybe her mobility on her left, but then said she can relearn all of that, so the doctors seem to be optimistic about her recovery," Hall said.
On Thursday, she remains in a medically induced coma.
"They haven’t decided when they’re going to wake her up, try to wake her up," Hall said.
On top of being in a coma and being in critical condition, doctors said she tested positive for the flu.
"She's a fighter," Hall said. "She's a strong little girl."
She put together a GoFundMe account to help the family since they have a long road ahead.
"I just felt like that was something she didn’t need to worry about right now," she said.
Preslie's friends and family just want her to get better soon so she can get back to dancing and singing but the also want the person responsible caught. Port St. Lucie police are looking for the driver of a four door sedan, possibly a BMW, with damage to the passenger side and a front fender blinker. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477.
There is now a more than $5,000 dollar reward for anyone who has information leading to an arrest.
