Third person identified, sought in rental fraud scheme in Lake Worth
LAKE WORTH, Fla. (CBS12) —
A rental fraud scam ring in Lake Worth widens.
Detectives with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are searching for Andrew Arce, a possible accomplice, in the scam involving multiple victims.
This comes following the arrest of a local man earlier this month.
Steven Arce, 43, was charged with grand theft.
According to investigators, a woman said she filled out a rental deposit form and paid $1,289 in cash to Arce as a deposit to move into a unit at 17 South D Street in Lake Worth. She said the 43-year-old promised to call her once the apartment was ready, but never heard from him since.
Authorities said there is another unidentified person who is believed to be part of the scam. The unidentified person was caught on surveillance camera, and is believed to have been used by Arce to conduct multiple money transactions with victims. The suspect’s aliases include, “Jaffon Hyatt,” “Hussain Jaffar,” and “Abraham.”
Investigators tell CBS12 it seems they are targeting Hispanics.
Anyone with information is urged to call Detective A. Pfeifle at 561-202-9652.
