(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) Demand for homes in Florida is up and the inventory is low causing prices to skyrocket.
Palm Beach County is working to bring affordable housing so people can work and live in the area.
One project in the works right now is Merry Place Estates in West Palm Beach.
So far four townhomes have been built but eventually, there will be 34 townhomes and two single-family homes all for our local workforce.
Affordable housing is a big problem in South Florida and in Palm Beach County.
The Assistant County Administrator told CBS12 the median price of a single-family home in the county is up to $466,000.
Through the county’s workforce housing program potential buyers are able to get on a list for homes they can afford.
“It’s really important for Palm Beach County to step in and see what we can do to take care of the people who really keep palm beach county thriving and going,” said Dorritt Miller, the Assistant County Administrator.
Palm Beach County is also in the process of developing 22 more homes in Riviera Beach.
“The board of county commissioners and the administrator they are very in tune with whats going on in Palm Beach County when it comes to workforce housing and it’s the priority for them so it’s a priority for all of us and we're doing everything that we possibly can to ensure that our workers that there is a place for them to live in Palm Beach County where they actually work,” said Miller.
