TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — A middle schooler from Tampa was arrested by police after officers say he brought a gun to school on Wednesday.
A resource officer from at Franklin Middle School, off of E. 21st Ave in Tampa, was advised by a student that another student had a gun with him and was showing it off to classmates.
The police department says the resource officer and staff located the 13-year-old boy in the cafeteria, escorted him to a discrete room and searched his backpack. Inside they found a loaded semi-automatic pistol — the boy told them he brought it from home for protection.

Officers say no threats were made to the school or the students, but the student now faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property (felony) and minor in possession of a firearm.
