Stoneman Douglas students return to more security changes
PARKLAND, Fla. (CBS12) —
Spring Break is officially over for students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and they return to even more changes intended to make the school more secure.
The teenagers will experience even more security changes, including: carrying clear backpacks on campus, wearing new student IDs at all times, and having limited points of entry to the school.
There was also an increased police presence on campus, as Gov. Rick Scott provided extra Florida Highway Patrol officers to beef up security.
But, it was also the first time many of these students saw their campus without the large, crowd-generated memorial to the victims that sprung up in the days after the shooting.
Just last Wednesday, the Parkland Historical Society cleared the extremely large and emotional memorial surrounding the school, and sent the salvageable items to a storage area at Florida Atlantic University for safe keeping. We’re told the goal is to create a museum in Parkland with all memorial material in the near future.
