South Florida man charged with spraying officers protecting the Capitol during Jan. 6 riot

PLANTATION, Fla. (CBS12) — The FBI announced the arrest of a man from South Florida “for assaulting law enforcement officers with a dangerous weapon during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.”

The feds said Barry Ramey, of Plantation, is charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers with a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon, and related offenses.

Ramey, 38, was arrested in Plantation on Friday. He was scheduled to appear in federal court on Saturday.

The FBI said documents show “Ramey was among a crowd of rioters illegally gathered” and “was in a group that pushed forward into the officers, pushing them back and up the stairwell. He sprayed two officers in the face and eyes with an orange substance that is consistent with pepper spray. Both officers reported that the spray caused them to become disoriented and have their vision impaired.”
