Police ID woman found near railroad tracks in West Palm Beach

Police search for answers after woman found on railroad tracks in West Palm Beach (WPEC)

A woman's body found along a railroad track has police searching for answers Monday morning.

The woman was found near the corner of Forest Hill Boulevard and Georgia Avenue.

She's been identified as 41-year-old Penney Jo Walker of Royal Palm Beach.

Police don't know whether the woman was hit by a train or murdered.

"I'm always cautious more than ever now, obviously this was tragic" said Jackie Leon, who lives across the street from where police found the woman.

Leon didn't know what was going on until police cars were everywhere.

"I saw a bunch of cops arrive" she said. "I saw [the] ambulance arrive, so yeah it was pretty crazy at that time."

West Palm Beach police found the body around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night.

The woman was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she later died.

Officers were on the scene for hours, with flashlights looking up and down the train tracks and questioning people in nearby stores and restaurants.

Leon says she is surprised to hear something so horrific happened so close to home.

"I'm completely shocked," she said. "I've never heard or never seen anything happen around here, so it's pretty sad."

No suspects are in custody and police say it's an active death investigation.

Police are also waiting for the Medical Examiner to release the results of the autopsy.
