MIAMI (CBS12) — A pilot was killed Sunday after a small plane crashed near Miami Executive Airport, WFOR reported.
Officials say the pilot of the Piper PA 60 aircraft had departed from Miami Executive and was heading back to the airport after declaring a mid-air emergency.
However, the plane crashed one and a half miles west of the airport in an empty field just before 3 p.m., according to WFOR.
The pilot was the only occupant.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. The NTSB will determine the cause of the accident.
