BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 62-year-old man was decapitated Thursday by the rotor of a helicopter at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.
The death happened on Flight Path Drive around 3:35 p.m.
The person who called 911 said he and another man were using a power cart to jumpstart the helicopter when, for unknown reasons, the helicopter suddenly jerked up and came down, according to the sheriff's office. The motion caused one of the main rotor blades to hit one of the men in the head.
The victim, who was identified as Salvatore Disi, was killed instantly.
The Medical Examiner’s Office in Leesburg responded to the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport to remove his body.
The incident is still under investigation.
