Parkland teen hero breathing on his own after successful surgeries
PARKLAND, Fla. (WPEC) - Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Anthony Borges, who was shot five times protecting his fellow classmates in last month's mass shooting, is still recovering in the hospital but doing much better this week.
The teenager had several surgeries for abdominal infections last week and was in the intensive care unit in a medically induced coma.
According to WPEC news partners at the Sun-Sentinel, Anthony is now awake, breathing on his own and able to eat.
A representative for the family said the abdominal surgeries Anthony underwent appear to be successful and he is doing much better. That representative said he was removed from a ventilator Monday.
Anthony, 15, is the last victim of the Stoneman Douglas shooting who remains in the hospital.
