WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Some of the most popular and healthiest fruits and vegetables that Americans eat every day have pesticides, according to a new report.
The Environmental Working Group released its "Shopper's guide to pesticides in produce."
The report looks at the items containing the most and least amount of pesticides.
According to the report, nearly 70 percent of the produce sold in the United States contains pesticide residue.
One shocker on the list, according to EWG, is Kale, which had higher pesticide residues than most produce on supermarket shelves.
“We were surprised kale had so many pesticides on it, but the test results were unequivocal,” said EWG Toxicologist Alexis Temkin, Ph.D.
Researchers found the pesticide residue after washing and peeling the test samples.
