Manhunt for murder suspect leads to Ft. Pierce
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) —
A manhunt is underway Thursday for a man who police say killed a teenage girl.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Deputies say 35-year-old Larry Peavy came to Ft. Pierce after killing 16-year-old Aleaya Jackson in Bushnell, a city 60 miles northeast of Tampa. Peavy's gray Nissan Sentra was found along Walker Drive in Ft. Pierce.
As many as 4 different agencies, including U.S. Marshals, are now searching for Peavy in St. Lucie County. Investigators say Peavy beat, sexually assaulted and then killed the girl. Her body was found inside a home on Sunday.
Security camera photos released by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office show Peavy's car heading south on the Turnpike. A man who looks like Peavy can be seen behind the wheel. Deputies say Peavy used to live in Fort Pierce and still has family in the area.
