Man taken into custody in connection to missing grandmother case

Man taken into custody in connection to missing grandmother case (Thomasville Police Department)

Thomasville Police took a man into custody in connection to a missing 70-year-old grandmother with family from West Palm Beach.

The department announced that it had taken 46-year-old Robert Lee Carter into custody for questioning about Deanna Shirey's disappearance.

Shirey, from Thomasville, Ga, has family in West Palm Beach and Vero Beach and lived in Palm Beach County in the 1980s.

Carter was recently charged with aggravated assault with the intent to murder, rape or rob a Georgia woman in an attack last month.

Shirey's son-in-law, Nick Abuisi, released a statement on the new development.

Thank you. Our thoughts are that we were excited to hear our prayers were answered and Robert Carter has been captured. We are very thankful that no one in law enforcement was injured in his apprehension. We can not praise the work of the GBI, Thomasville and all the other agencies who assisted enough. Carter would not be in custody without their around the clock efforts.
We are now praying that Robert Carter cooperates and we can bring mom home safe after the nightmare of these last 7 days. We are continuing to offer a $5000 reward for Deanna's return.
