Man killed in car crash involving stolen car, prompting roads closures


A man lost his life after he ran a red light in a stolen BMW and hit another vehicle on Monday night in West Palm Beach.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. at 45th Street and Village Boulevard, according to the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Police say a newer model BMW was the vehicle at fault and was reported stolen to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the car was traveling eastbound at high speed, ran a red light, then struck a Honda Accord that was turning south onto Village Boulevard from 45th Street. The BMW kept going and hitting signs. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Honda suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital.

The northbound lanes of Village Boulevard are closed at 45th Street, and 45th Street eastbound is closed from Military Trail, police said. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.

However, the westbound lanes of 45th Street are still open.
