A jury found a man guilty of killing another man during a fight in Fort Pierce.

Prosecutors said 26-year-old Ashlyn Salomon shot and killed 34-year-old Jonathan Allan Maciel in Aug. 2016.

Investigators said Maciel got into an argument with his girlfriend when her 19-year-old daughter called Salomon, her boyfriend, to the apartment complex on Ave. D.

Police said Salomon and Maciel started fighting when Salomon pulled a gun and shot Maciel multiple times in the face and back. He later died at the hospital.

Salomon's defense attorney, Lance Richards, said Salomon was acting in self-defense. He stated the two men got into a physical altercation, Maciel went inside the home and then came out to fight Salomon again. Richards said Salomon felt threatened and shot Maciel twice, even though he fired his gun 18 times.

The jury deliberated for about four hours on Thursday and a few hours Friday before reaching a verdict. According to CBS12 reporter Erin MacPherson, the family became very emotional upon hearing the jury's decision but did not want to talk outside of court.

Salomon's family left the courtroom immediately, angry with the jury's ruling.

Salomon faces 25 years to life in prison.
