Police arrested a man on a charge of attempted first degree murder after authorities say he attacked his ex-girlfriend in Vero Beach.

A woman told police she met up with 44-year-old Brandon Sean Douglas at Cunningham's Pool and Darts on Monday night. As she tried to leave, she said he attacked her in her car with some sort of edged weapon. Police said Douglas then took off in her car. Authorities found the woman with multiple cuts to her face and upper body.

Later that night, police arrested Douglas and found the woman's car abandoned on Royal Palm Boulevard near U.S. 1.

Police initially held Douglas on charges of felony battery with a prior conviction and grand theft of a motor vehicle. Police said they later learned of another crime involving Douglas so authorities added additional charges of robbery by sudden snatching and grand theft.

Douglas is being held in the Indian River County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
