Loggerhead Marine Life releases "Honda" back into the ocean
JUNO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) —
Loggerhead Marine Life Center hosted a sea turtle release at Juno Beach Wednesday.
Dozens of people bundled up in the 50-degree temperatures to catch a glimpse of “Honda.”
Honda is an adult male sea turtle who was rescued in the St. Lucie Power Plant Intake Canal. He had an infection and was severely underweight.
Honda initially began treatment at the center seven months ago.
Right around that time, elementary school student Nico Brown moved to Florida from New York. He and his family visited Loggerhead, where Nico saw Honda and wanted to help.
“He was sick and needed help,” said Nico. “I gave some of my money away to help him feel better.”
During the turtle release, Nico got to see his donation pay off as Honda swam home.
“I didn’t really get to see Honda leave that much but I hope he’s ok!" Nico said.
Loggerhead Marine Life put a tracking device on Honda to follow his journey throughout his lifetime.
