WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Local leaders are teaming up to make the roads safer for bicyclists.
March is bike safety month.
Even though bicyclists and pedestrians make up two percent of all commuters in West Palm Beach, they made up 30 percent of all transportation-related fatalities on county roads in the last two years, according to the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency.
"To find that Florida is the first state in traffic fatalities for pedestrians and bicyclists makes you wonder what we're doing when we're telling people to go out and be healthy and go out and ride their bicycles," said Palm Beach County Vice Mayor Robert Weinroth.

Weinroth is hosting a webinar on Monday to discuss bike safety and look at some of the new proposals. He will be joined by a bike crash survivor and others.
