A medical marijuana dispensary will open Monday morning in Lake Worth and it’s location is causing a lot of controversy.

The Curaleaf Dispensary is less than 200 feet from the Academy for Positive Learning Charter School on North Dixie Highway.

That’s where about 130 kids are enrolled.

Some parents and teachers aren’t happy about it.

“I just don’t think things like that should be near a school,” said Marleny Olivo, mom to a fifth grader there.

“It’s giving them the message that weed is okay. That it’s okay for you to get high from weed because it's medically necessary to a lot of people,” she added.

Others argue that the dispensary is no different than a pharmacy and that it is crucial to helping patients who are suffering.

Governor Rick Scott signed a state law in June saying that a marijuana dispensary cannot be within 500 feet of a school, but this dispensary got city approval before that law took effect.

Doors open at 10:00 a.m.
