Killer pit bull still alive

The pit bull that attacked and killed a woman's dog, and turned on another at Okeeheelee Park, has yet to be put down.

Animal Care and Control says it has received clearance Thursday to euthanize the dog, but it'll most likely happen on Friday.

The aftermath of the attack was caught on video. It shows several people trying to hold the dog down after it killed a Yorkie.

Animal Care and Control said last week that if no one came forward to claim the dog, it would be euthanized after 10 days.

The 10-day mark has passed.

Spokesman Dave Walesky told CBS12 it's inevitable, "it's just a matter of when staff are available to perform the procedure."

A 19-year-old man who had the pit bull in the park claimed it wasn't his. Fernando Gonzalez said he brought the dog to the park to look for its owner. Gonzalez has been cited by Animal Control for failure to properly confine dog, failure to vaccinate dog against rabies, failure to comply with county tag requirements and failure to comply with county sterilization program.
