JUPITER FARMS, Fla. (CBS12) — There is a runaway kangaroo in Jupiter Farms and crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are out looking for it.
The kangaroo is named Storm, according to the FWC, and it escaped on Monday afternoon.
Denise Cooper posted video of the marsupial hopping down the street on her Facebook page. She saw it while taking a youngster to the bus stop.
CBS12 spoke with FWC who said they're not releasing the name of the person who owns the kangaroo. CBS12 reporter Niala Charles spoke to a man who owns an animal sanctuary on 101st Street who says the kangaroo belongs to him.
The kangaroo is 4-5 years old, about four feet tall with black paws.
The owner says the kangaroo should not pose a threat to people. The FWC doesn't believe there is a significant public safety risk with the animal. However, the FWC is asking people who see the kangaroo to call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.
