Jury selection begins for Melanie Eam retrial

Retrial set in case of 21-year-old man allegedly stabbed to death by ex-girlfriend (WPEC)

On Monday morning jury selection will begin in the new trial for the woman accused of killing her ex-boyfriend, shortly after he broke up with her then fleeing the state.

Melanie Eam is charged with the murder of 21-year-old James Barry.

Prosecutors said she brutally stabbed him to death at his home in the Loxahatchee Acreage in 2016 then fled to Maryland.

In September 2018, a judge declared a mistrial in Eam’s first trial after the panel was deadlocked.

Four jurors favored a conviction for second degree murder.

The other two panelists backed the lesser count of manslaughter.
