The Martin County and Palm Beach County School Districts have approved contracts with a private tutoring company to provide extra instruction to students.

The Canada based company “Paper” provides tutoring instruction to students through an instant messaging platform at all hours of the day and night.

With the software, students in grades 6-12 will be able to access tutors to help in all subject areas with homework help, essay review, and other assistance to help offset pandemic learning loss.

Paper’s CEO, Phillip Cutler says he hopes the service can help level the playing field for thousands of kids in South Florida who will have access to the platform in the new year.

“It’s certainly been more evident over the past 20 months or so that students who didn’t have the support fall further and further behind, while other families have been investing heavily in making sure their students are better supported.” Cutler told CBS12 News. “We want to be able to elevate everyone, a rising tide raises all boats and that’s what we want to do.”

Both districts are using government funding to pay for the program, which comes with a $487,000 price tag in Martin County, and the Palm Beach Co School District has allotted $1.1 million to the service.
