4 people nabbed after dramatic chase, crash in stolen van

MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WPEC) - Four people are behind bars after a dramatic chase and crash in a stolen van.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says its new helicopter helped make the arrests.

Deputies on Thursday responded to a call about a stolen minivan on SE 169th Terrace Road in Silver Springs. A deputy spotted the stolen minivan and tried to pull it over but the driver kept going. A deputy deployed stop sticks but the thieves didn't stop. A few miles later, a deputy stopped the minivan with a PIT maneuver. The minivan skidded to a halt and four people bailed out and ran into the woods. The sheriff's office had eyes in the sky and led ground teams to the fleeing suspects.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Jeremiah Mills on charges of grand theft auto, resisting an officer without violence. Christopher Carter, 18, faces charges of grand theft auto, flee and elude law enforcement officer at a high rate of speed, resisting an officer without violence, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Tanner Miller, 17, is accused of grand theft auto. Larry Riley, 17, is facing charges of grand theft auto and possession of burglary tools with the intent to use.
